SoberSauce January Latest Beers Box
What is SoberSauce
SoberSauce is an online alcohol free beer retailer. Set up by Adam Uttley, Adam set up sober sauce as he was having difficulty finding good alcohol free beers in the shops. He set up sobersauce to help people who like him wanted to try good quality alcohol free beers but were having difficulty finding them. Adam has now tried over 200 alcohol free beers and has a very good knowledge of what is out there.
This is where the Latest Beers box comes in.
The Discovery Box
In the Discovery box Adam personally select 8 alcohol free beers a month to send to the members. Most these beers will be new to the market so likely be ones you haven't tried elsewhere.
There will be a variety of different styles that gives the end customer a good selection to find out what ones they like. You can also add extra beers to be delivered with your box which saves on extra postage and packaging.
The box costs £19.99 + P&P and is available direct from the sobersauce website. There is currently an offer on your first box and you can get 25% off using the discount code LatestDry25
Januarys Box.
The January box contains 2 Beers from Danish brewer Mikkeler Henry & his science and weird Weather.
Next up are some I am really looking forward to trying as I am a big fan of this brewery and have tried a variety of their beers in the past Tiny Rebel. Tiny Rebel are a Welsh brewery based in Newport. They always seem to like to come up with new and wacky beers and for January they came out with 4 non alcoholic ones. The 2 in this pack are a tropical IPA, Clwb Tropica Non Alc and an oat milk mocha stout Space Cake.
We then have from Norweigen Brewer Nøgne Ø a Alcohol free IPA: Himla Humla
Next up from Northern Monk we have a Hazy Pale Ale: Holy Faity
Then from Good Karma we have thier lemon Radler (shandy): Culture Shock
and finally from Laine brew co thier King Limbo IPA.
I will now go into a bit more detail on each beer and what I think of them.
All of these comments are based on my own personal preference would love to know what you think in the comments.
A great mix of styles the 2 from Mikkeller and the northern monk particularly stood out for me this month.
This pours with a hazy colour to it almost like a glass of fruit Juice. on the nose you get strong tropical smell. Sort of Pineapple. The taste is very tropical & hoppy with a slight bitter finish. For me this is up there with the coast beers. Excellent and I imagine even better on a sunny day.
8/10
This pours a very dark colour but with very little head that disappears quickly.
On the nose you get a very sweet chocolaty smell.
The taste is very smooth and has quite a thick mouth feel to it this is probably down to the lactose it contains. There is a sweet chocolate taste to it with a very slight hint of coffee. A decent attempt at a milk stout.
But for me it feels like there is something missing. I don't know exactly what and it could be down to the fact I have drunk a lot of tiny rebel beers in the past and maybe comparing it to these and the crazy recipes they tend to come out with. This is not them and isn't trying to be it is a vey decent milk stout with no gimmicks chucked in. I would definitely have this beer again and overall give it a 6/10
On the pour you get a slightly cloudy Straw colour.
Has a strong Pineapple smell to it.
Taste. Nice tropical taste getting pineapple and coconut There then is a slight bitter aftertaste. Very refreshing. Been a while since I have tried the alcoholic clwb but from what I remember it's a very similar taste. I will try and get hold of some and do a side by side comparison. 6/10
This pours with a yellow hazy colour and with lots of carbonation.
Get a strong smell of Lemon from it.
Tastes a lot like a traditional lemonade very bitter lemon don't really get any beer flavour coming through. Raddlers/Shandy is not really a style I'm a fan of. If you like the style I am sure would love it.
4/10
Mikkeller - Henry and his science
Pours with a slightly murky amber colour. Slight smell of grapefruit.
The taste is Is a very good level of grapefruit, not too overpowering as I have found with a lot of grapefruit Beers. It has a nice citrus zing to finish. This Beer is described as Microbiologically flavoured now I'm not enbtirely sure what that means but the result is great. 8/10
Nøgne ø - Himla Humla.
This pours with what Id say is a very honey like look its quite cloudy and looks thick in the glass.
On the nose you get a very sweet smell. The taste is very sweet and has a sort of sticky consistency to it. I can't quite place the flavour its definetly a bit honey. For my tastes its a bit too sweet.
5/10
Laine Brew Co - King Limbo
Pours with a nice clear amber colour. Strangely I don't really get much on the nose there are slight tropical notes but very faint.
There's a slight bitter hops in the flavour but nothing is really jumping out. It leaves you with a tingly bitterness on the tongue. 5/10
Northern Monk - Holy Faith. Hazy Pale Ale
As expected from the name this pour's a very hazy colour almost looks like a good quality apple juice. On the nose you get fruity notes Id say apricot.
The taste is first strong hops followed by citrus fruit flavours.
The mouth feel is nice and it feels like it coats the inside of the mouth leaving a bitter zing behind.
8/10
