Esmeralda tequila flavoured non alcoholic beer

Back in the late 90's Heineken took over a small French brewerys project of a tequila flavoured beer.   The beer was unique at the time and tried to introduce the beer as a way to get parties going.   Now you could have something tequila flavoured at the start of your night and build up to end your night with some tequila slammers.

The product proved highly popular and is now sold worldwide with a variety of different flavours all based around the tequila theme and cocktails you would have with it.

Mockingbird

Quite a few years later in 2020 Fern McCoy launched her Mockingbird spirit.  This is an alcohol free tequila flavoured spirit.  This is made using the same blue agave that is used in Tequila.   Fern experimented a lot to try and replicate the traditional tequila flavour.

They also use Ashwagandha which is an adaptogen that helps your mind and body manage stress and anxiety.

I was never a big tequila fan when I did drink it it tended to be those shots at the end of the night with what was probably a very cheap low quality tequila. So I'm not really in a position to compare it to really tequila however  I have tried the mockingbird and it is a really nice flavour great on its own and in cocktails

Esmeralda

Mockingbird spirit have now teamed up with Fortitude non alcoholic drinks to bring us the Esmeralda tequila flavoured non alcoholic beer.  Fortitude are a father and son team from Essex who in 2020 launched thier everyday lager. A gluten free and vegan alcohol free lager brewed in the UK.

Now the 2 have come together to give us the UKs 1st non alcoholic tequila flavoured beer. A light and golden non-alcoholic beer with a touch of tequila taste and reminiscent of a refreshing Mexican Cerveza with those all familiar flavours.  Can this do the same for the non alcoholic Market as Desparados has managed in the alcoholic markets.

So the important part the beer itself.  It has a very lightish  colour to it and you get a strong smell from the spirit.    I found when drinking it you get the taste of tequila up front from the mockingbird spirit and a real warming feeling its hard to believe this is actually alcohol free.   There's then a bit of a weird bitterness to the finish which although not unpleasant I found I needed to take the edge off it by adding a lime slice.   This is a real interesting beer and nothing else like it in the alcohol free market.  Would be great to see what people who drink tequila regularly think of it.

I would have this beer again but probably won't become a regular for me as its not really a style I tend to drink

Interestingly Desparados are releasing an alcohol free drink called Desparados virgin so will be interested to see how that compares.

Esmeralda can be purchased direct from mockingbird where you can also order the spirit.

It can also be ordered from sober cigar and wisebartender
